People flocked to Brighton beach yesterday to cool off during the record-breaking temperatures
Britain saw its hottest July day on record yesterday as temperatures hit 38.1C in Cambridge, however the scorching weather will subside as Britain is hit by torrential rain tomorrow.
The Met Office has issued a severe weather alert for tomorrow and Sunday, warning of potential flooding in north, north-east and north-west England.
The weather warning will be in force from noon tomorrow to 3pm on Sunday, although the mercury will still remain high today.

A severe weather warning will be in force tomorrow
It will be a muggy day for most, with some sunny spells in a few parts of the country.
Things will feel a lot cooler than yesterday, when severe weather caused traffic chaos for rail and flight passengers.
Heat-related incidents, including sagging overhead railway lines, led to cancellations and speed restrictions on the country's rail network yesterday.

Temperatures will dip today, although they will remain high
Flights were also grounded at Heathrow, Stansted and Luton airports as a result of poor conditions from thunderstorms in Europe.
More traffic chaos is expected today, with East Midlands Trains warning people not to travel in and out of London St Pancras because of downed overhead lines.

Network Rail said train passengers will likely encounter further delays today.
British Airways also said earlier this morning that thunderstorms were still causing delays and cancellations.

It will be a washout weekend, with rainfall across almost the entire country on Saturday, with only south Wales and south-west England likely to be spared.
Sunday will be a brighter and drier day, although there will still be showers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.
A Met Office spokesman said: "After Thursday’s peak, temperatures are expected to return closer to normal as we head through the weekend, with the weather becoming less settled and an increased chance of rain for many eastern and north-eastern areas."
Today:
Showers across south Wales and southern England will spread northeastwards bringing a much cooler day with heavy and perhaps thundery rain across central and eastern areas. Generally fine in the west with isolated showers. Still hot across the far east.
Outbreaks of heavy rain will continue across northern, eastern and some central parts overnight, where it will remain humid. Drier and fresher in the west and south with clear spells.
Saturday:
A northeast/southwest split. Rain, heavy at times in the northeast, although fine and warm across the far northeast of Scotland. Sunny spells and isolated showers in the southwest.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Heavy rain continuing across northern and some eastern areas on Sunday, otherwise fine. Changeable into next week with showers, especially across the south. Less hot for all but still warm.
